Taki

Another place very near to Kolkata, a town on the bank of Ichamati River (ইছামতি নদী) in the district of North 24 pgs. This is the international border between India and Bangladesh. The shores of Bangladesh are visible on the other side of the river.

It is exactly 68 K.M from Kolkata Science City and takes about 1 and half hours if one takes the new road via Bantala – Ghatakpur. The driving was a real pleasure and the sight offers a panoramic view.  The place is an ideal option for a brief stay from the din and dazzle of city life. Time flies away simply sitting on the riverbed and observing the captivating sight of ever changing mood and colour of the river.

We paid a visit to the place on the day of “Maha Saptami” and put up at Suhashini Guest House. It was a good experience staying at Suhashini. The quality of the food was also very much home like and we had a lip-smacking menu for lunch comprising of :

Plain Rice
Mooger Daal
Beguni
Alu Posto
Parshe Mach Bhaja
Sorshe Ilish
Kochi Pathar Jhol
Chutney

The  worth visiting places in the vicinity are the old palace of the zamindars, “Ma Siddheswari Kali” Temple, Taki Ramkrishna Mission, Jora Mandir (Temple), Nandadulal Temple etc.

Nimpith - Kaikhali

A place near Sundarbans on the bank of Matla river. Only option to stay there is The Ramkrishna Mision Ashram Guest House. Having no Electricity with blowing wind all the time, breathtaking view of vast Matla river. The distance from Kolkata is around 80Kms and takes around 1 and half hours by road. The driving direction is EM Bypass > Kamalgaji  > Baruipur Level Crossing > Dakshin Barasat > Joynagar > Nimpith > Jamtola > Kaikhali.  We first visited to Nimpith Ramakrishna Ashram, the way we were welcomed was amazingly heart-warming.Quickly we were allotted a room and asked to freshen up. After about half an hour when the call for lunch came, we were taken to a nearby building. After a sumptuous lunch and a short afternoon nap, we set out to our final destination – Kaikhali.

Chakladham - Birth place of Baba Loknath.

It was a long due to visit Baba Loknath Dham in Chakla. Finally decided to have the darshan on my 43 rd birthday. Started at around 8 AM in the morning on 22-Nov-2015. Now a days the google map has made the driver’s life very easy. So set the destination and simply followed the direction. The road condition was ok except few patches on Barasat Taki road.  The temple place is very nice and clean. Very organized as well. Also visited the Chakla Kali Mandir just 50 metres from the Baba Loknath Mandir. Very serene and what a peace of mind. Offered puja and anjali to “Ma Kali”. This Idol of Ma Kali is very old. Father of Loknath baba used to worship Ma kali here and the little Loknath used to seat there and watch the puja by his father. Added some photographs that I took with all my amateur skill.

Shantiniketan

Shantiniketan is a much visited place though, but in this trip our stay in Jiraan resort was indeed relaxing and rejuvenating in an absolute rural ambiance  . Jiraan is located at Kamarpara village in Birbhum district, West Bengal. On the highway between Bolpur and Ilambazar, right after BITM college comes Kamarpara bus-stop and the gates of Jiraan-The Retreat.
